White Water Rafting in Taupo - Tongariro White Water Section (Grade 3+) – The most popular trip

Experience the region's most popular white water rafting trip.

The region's most popular rafting trip

A half-day trip white water rafting on the Tongariro River is the region’s most popular rafting option and is recognised as New Zealand’s best half-day white water rafting adventure, as well as the country's best Grade 3 experience.

With more rapids than any other equivalent river journey in New Zealand (50+ rapids), you’ll spend two and a half hours on the river traveling through an ancient volcanic gorge shrouded in lush native bush.

The scenery is spectacular! With water so clean you can drink it, you really are in one of the world's last unspoiled gems. While white water rafting on the Tongariro River you will also have the best chance to spot the rare and endangered Whio (blue duck) - New Zealand’s only indigenous duck.

The river is also world famous for its trout fishing and at certain times of the year is loaded full with the beautiful fish. Suitable for ages 10 years and up, this Grade 3 trip is a world-class river adventure that all can enjoy. If you are a first time rafter, a family with teenagers or just someone looking for a fantastic time - then this white water rafting trip is for you!

White water rafting tours are available daily, all year round.
