Have a relaxing summer picnic lunch or dinner on the shores of Lake Maraetai while watching the thrills and spills of the wakeboarders out on the water. The lake also reaches comfortable temperatures for swimming during summer.

If you’d like tro try something more active during your stay, hire some mountain bikes (or bring your own) and ride the 12km Maraetai section of the Waikato River Trails from the Mangakino lakefront to the Whakamaru Dam. This trail is the perfect day out for all riders and features a 70 metre suspension bridge across the Waikato River, 4km from the Mangakino end of the trail.

Hiking is also a popular summer pursuit in the Mangakino area. The Pureora Forest, with its majestic podocarp rainforest, has many hiking trails of different lengths and difficulty. From all day hikes to half hour strolls and the renowned Timber Trail, this stunning forest is not to be missed.
