Taupo was recently awarded the 2015 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Destination Award within the award’s New Zealand category. The award, heralded as TripAdvisor’s most prestigious, is based on traveler reviews and opinions, and places Taupo in the top 1% of destinations ranked on TripAdvisor.

The latest award proves the region’s winning streak is gaining momentum.

Along with taking out the Best New Zealand Region at the 19th annual TNT Golden Backpack Awards last November, Taupo recently topped a consumer poll conducted by leading travel experience provider Experience Oz + NZ as the country’s number one destination to experience in 2015.

Add to that a second place ranking in ‘New Zealand’s Favourite Places to Cycle’ competition run by Bike Wise and it’s clear to see the region is being recognised far and wide for it’s plethora of activities, adventure, hospitality and breathtaking natural environment.

"The Great Lake Taupo region is really on a role and this new TripAdvisor Award has just topped off what has been a fantastic year all around,” says Destination Great Lake Taupo Sales and Marketing Manager Zelia Horrell.

The accolades began to roll in mid last year when Destination Great Lake Taupo won one of the ‘Best Site’ awards at Fieldays at Mystery Creek. The year continued with Skydive Taupo and Tongariro Expeditions taking out titles in the national Kiwi Experience Awards of Excellence, and Lake Taupo Top 10 Holiday Resort was crowned the top-ranked holiday park in New Zealand according to reviews provided by Wotif customers. Furthermore, Tongariro River Rafting was recently named in Lonely Planet’s list of ‘NZ’s unmissable aquatic adventures’.

The region is undoubtedly on a high with a string of successes under its belt and with recognition from both national and international audiences; it’s a welcome boost heading into the winter season.
