The Events Capital of New Zealand

The Great Lake Taupo region, home to a diverse range of sporting, cultural and artistic events, is heralded as the ‘events capital of New Zealand,’ and rightly so when you consider our annual calendar of events – there’s always something going on!

From the international signature event of the Kellogg’s Nutri- Grain IRONMAN New Zealand; the
nation’s biggest cycling event – the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge; the region’s largest single day music festival – the Taupo Summer Concert; forward-thinking events like Wanderlust – a yoga and wellbeing festival; through to our traditional off-road and on-road quarter, half, full and ultra marathons, we truly do cover off every sector with quality, sustainable events.

Great Lake Taupo’s reputation as New Zealand’s events capital has been further cemented after Taupo was named as a 2016 International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA) World Festival and Event City. The award recognises cities that provide an environment conducive to successful festivals and events and was presented to the Taupo district at the 2016 IFEA conference held in Tucson, Arizona in September 2016. This is the second time the district has claimed an award, previously taking out the honour in 2010.
