The 12 Adventures of a Taupo Christmas
'Tis with a dash of festive cheer I bring to you my top twelve adventures of a Taupo Christmas.....
On the first day of Christmas Great Lake Taupo offered me.....
1. Parasailing on Lake Taupo
Picture yourself aboard a sturdy boat, strapped into your harness, the boat accelerated and you are liftly gently skyward and leisurely towed across the lake front, you can take in all the beautiful views south the piping mountains of Tongariro and Ruapehu and east to the noble Mount Tauhara carefull watching over the township.

What better way to take in the Central Plateau but with a plunge from 12,000 or 15,000 feet, a short ride to altitude, the door opens and whoosh, another adventure ticked off your bucket list!
On the fourth day of Christmas Great Lake Taupo offered me.....
Another plunge this time above the picturesque Waikato River, absorb the smell of the bush and the twinkle of the water before throwing yourself off the platform into the fresh air beyond, upscale your adrenalin shot with a dip in the river waters.

5. Thermal Hotpools
You can't visit Taupo without seeing the beautiful, serene Orakei Korako Thermal Area, steaming vents and bubbling mudpools surrounded by native bush, this is iconic New Zealand.

6. Active Volcanoes
Take a guided walk to the the World Heritage Area of Tongariro National Park to see the currently erupting Mountt Tongariro emit it's clouds of steam, the snow capped crater lake of Mount Ruapheu and Mount Ngauruhoe- featured in Lord of The Rings as Mount Doom. This area is also home to New Zealand's most popular one day hike - the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

You can choose the level of adventure you require on the Tongariro River, choose the family float trip or the more exhilarating grade three rapids, you'll love the peace and relaxtion of the river with the odd hold-onto-to-your-paddles thrills and the cooling waters on our hot summer days.

Rent a bike or bring your own and take advantage of our custom built tracks and trails. A full team of bike experts have created a veritable feast of meandering bends, challenging uphills and fast turning downhill runs either amongst the tall pines or under the summer sun, there is a track to suit everyone here from kids to experts.

9. Quad Biking
Need more power than the pedal can provide? Get yourself and engine and an adventure to boot, ride the mud, the water... the wilderness! All seated comfortably atop your 4 wheeled quad bike, minimum effort- maximum adventure.
