Destination Great Lake Taupo Board Members

Destination Great Lake Taupo is the Regional Tourism Organisation for the Taupo District.

Destination Great Lake Taupo is responsible for marketing the Taupo District to domestic and international markets with the aim of increasing visitor numbers, lengths of stay, activity involvement and ensuring positive experiences to those visitors so that they share these with their families and friends. The Destination Great Lake Taupo Board provides governance and support to management. As a stand alone legal entity, the board has significant autonomy and responsibility to make decisions that deliver better outcomes for the Taupo District’s visitor industry and community.  


Ray Salter

Ray is currently a tourism consultant with TRC Tourism Ltd, an Australasian tourism consultancy with a broad range of clients throughout New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific. He is also a board member of YHA ltd. Previously Ray was general manager of the Ministry of Tourism and has had extensive experience in the industry for over 14 years. Prior to that Ray was a policy manager with the Ministry for the Environment. He has degrees in Public Administration and Science and is a Member of the Institute of Directors.

He has been a frequent visitor to Taupo since the 1970’s and has had the opportunity to see the region develop into the desirable tourism destination it is today.


Board Members

Dennis Christian

Dennis is Managing Director of Flying Kiwi Adventures, a nationwide tour operator focussing on sharing New Zealand’s outdoors with international visitors. Prior to tourism Dennis had a career with the Bank of New Zealand. 

Dennis is also Chair of Nelson College Secondary school, Chair of the Industry Advisory Group for Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology and represent the industry on the Targeted Review of Qualifications. He holds qualifications in Company Direction and is a member of the Institute of Directors. With his wife and three boys they have often holidayed in the Taupo region.



Laura Duncan

Laura is the managing director at Canoe and Kayak – a retail shop, tourism operation and kayaking school based in Taupo. She is also a member of the Institute of Directors. Originally from Hawke’s Bay, Laura visited the district from an early age and is now proud to call Taupo home.  

With a degree in adventure tourism, and a strong background in management and tourism marketing, Laura is committed to promoting Great Lake Taupo as a world class destination and Nature’s Ultimate Playground.


Glyn Williams

Glyn Williams is the VP of Trapeze Solutions, a specialist in the electronic processing and management of development applications and building consents. Trapeze Solutions is the market leader in “ePlanning” in NZ, Australia and the UK.

Glyn joined Trapeze Solutions (formerly Onstream Systems) in 2005 as CEO after returning to New Zealand from the United Kingdom and became a shareholder in 2006. He grew Onstream Systems significantly over a period of 10 years and on behalf of the shareholders sold it to Objective Corporation in 2016.  Trapeze Solutions is a division of Objective Corporation.

In the UK (2000 – 2003) Glyn worked in the media rights market and television industry as Commercial Director of Arena Online Services and latterly Attheraces television channel. He was at the forefront of internet and mobile gambling growth early this century and was involved in the development of streaming media to mobile phones and the introduction of interactive TV.

Glyn also spent 18 months at Sky Channel in Sydney developing their mobile and interactive media services before returning to the UK to establish a new start-up mobile media rights company.

Glyn brings a wealth of international experience in the Digital transformation space focusing on community engagement and digital marketing.

In his governance role Glyn brings extensive experience in Strategic development, and a strong commercial focus.

Glyn’s parents were farmers in the Taupo area and he spent his formative years in Taupo and has recently made it his home and operates his international business from there. 


Jonathan Cameron

Jonathan is currently the Managing Principal of Elevate Capital Partners, a strategic growth, M&A and innovation advisory business as well as a Director and ‘ideas generator’ in a start-up company looking to develop digitally rich and immersive tourist experiences.

Jonathan recently headed up the Corporate Development and Planning team at Air New Zealand where he led the strategic planning, M&A, investment and analysis team and undertook a number of special projects for the airline, including a significant corporate divestment program to focus Air New Zealand on its core business and reinvest into data capabilities. He also co-lead a strategically important project that set Air New Zealand’s long term growth plan.

Jonathan has had an extensive career in corporate finance, M&A and financial advisory services at PwC and EY, in New Zealand and the UK, and has developed a deep interest in New Zealand’s tourism sector and NZ Inc. He is entrepreneurial, commercially astute and brings with him strategic, innovative and creative thinking that combines to offer an exemplar of future visionary thinking that is entirely attainable.

A key passion of Jonathan is working with organisations, business owners and management teams who want to build better businesses. This aligns with Jonathan’s desire to personally do more things to help ensure the future success of New Zealand.

Jonathan has deep connections with Great Lake Taupo, who has regularly visited and stayed in the region both in his childhood, as a visiting professional and parent with a young family.

As a busy executive and father of three, Jonathan is an avid believer in the benefits of escapes to naturally beautiful places. He fully appreciates the amazingly stunning assets within the Great Lake Taupo region and is incredibly excited to be appointed to the Board of Destination Great Lake Taupo to help drive the future success of tourism in Great Lake Taupo.


Torben Landl

Torben has recently returned to Taupo as owner of Taupo’s 2Mile Bay watersports centre. He is particularly interested in working with local iwi on future tourism ventures, improving shoulder season visitor numbers, and reducing the impact of economic growth on Taupo’s beautiful natural environment.

Torben has built companies and raised capital in a range of industries including construction, hospitality, entertainment, financial services and tourism.
