Kelloggs Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand

You can’t go past Kellogs Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand as the elite event of New Zealand endurance sport.

The 3.8km fresh water swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run, being held on the first weekend of March, has been described as one of the most beautiful IRONMAN course in the world with a fantastic team of supporters.

Half the field travels from outside the country every year, IRONMAN New Zealand is truly the world’s most international IRONMAN. This race has stood the test of time since its first IRONMAN New Zealand in 1983.

Firmly established in its hometown of Taupo since 1999, IRONMAN New Zealand showcases the best of New Zealand's outdoors and its breathtaking scenery. Thanks to the natives' pure Kiwi spirit, you will feel like a local the minute you arrive. The Taupo event attracts more than 2,000 volunteers from a population of just 22,000—and you'll encounter the rest along the streets cheering you on.

Lake Taupo, one of the world’s biggest fresh water lakes offers arguably the best swim on the circuit. A two-loop bike course comes back through the Taupo town before heading through the forests and a three-loop run course leaves you no chance to escape the thousands of spectators for Taupo's sports event. Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand allows you to realise your IRONMAN potential in one of the world’s most beautiful places.

It’s a stunning event in Taupo, from the glowing sunrise and early morning mass start in the lake, to the fittest and fastest triathletes in the world competing for a title, to the last competitors struggling to finish their 17 hour journey before the cut off time. IRONMAN New Zealand also offer 40 qualifying slots for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

If the full IRONMAN New Zealand is biting off a little more than you think you can chew, there’s the IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo, held in December. The event follows the course of IRONMAN New Zealand, but is half the distance. Some athletes use this event as training for the full IRONMAN, but most entrants are focused on completing the 70.3 distance in the best time they can.
