World Famous Taupo and Turangi Trout Fishing
Lake Taupo trout fishing has been world famous since Zane Grey first visited and wrote about his fishing adventures in Tales of the Angler's Eldorado in the 1920s. The Tongariro and Tauranga-Taupo Rivers, which feed Lake Taupo, provide world class year-round fishing. Turangi is the 'Trout Fishing Capital of New Zealand' and a great place to base yourself if fly-fishing is your thing!
Taupo trout and fly fishing guides provide anglers fabulous wilderness fishing in the surrounding rivers and streams amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in New Zealand. Taupo and Turangi are home to internationally recognised fishing lodges that provide resident trout and fly fishing guides and specialise in catering for the overseas angler.
If you decide to give it a go on your own, don’t forget to buy a licence. These can be purchased from the Visitor Information Centres. To find the best spots and hear the hot tips drop in to the fishing shops and chat to some of the local fisherman. While you are there appropriate gear can be hired or purchased.
Check out the latest Turangi or Taupo fishing report.
On Lake Taupo itself, comfortable charter boats and launches with experienced skippers are available year round and fantastic sport can be had - light tackle trolling and no experience needed.
Anglers from all over the world travel to Turangi and Taupo so get in amongst them and give fishing a go - you never know you just might catch the big one!
