Partner Programmes & Activities
Often the Lake Taupo region is a popular destination for partners or non-conferencing delegates. We have some excellent suggestions and organised programmes. The options may range from the relaxing to educational, to the more energetic. Here are some suggestions or to make a specific enquiry for your group
Mineral Spa Indulgence
Unwind at Taupo De Bretts Spa with a relaxing soak in a private natural thermal pool, followed by a soothing massage or an indulgent spa treatment.
Walk on the wild side
One of the best and shortest walks is the 5 min walk to the magnificent Huka Falls but this is just one of many in the region. Kinloch to Kawakawa or Spa Park to Huka Falls to Aratiatia Dam or the Lions walk around the lake to 5 mile Bay are just a few. The newest track is the 14km Whakaipo to Kinloch. Some could Mountain bike, some could hike, some could golf at Kinloch Golf Resort and then all meet up for lunch afterwards.
Arts, Crafts and Cafes
Take a guided tour and enjoy a showcase of the region’s artistic side – arts, crafts, the museum with its Ora Garden of Wellbeing or Honey Hive for a look at their amazing array of products. A smorgasbord of cafes and restaurants and a wonderful selection of specialist shops to wander around, with lunch at L’Arte, our mosaic and sculpture garden and gallery or at Lava Glass Gallery. End the day by wine tasting at Scenic Cellars.
Morning Tea cruise
Take a leisurely morning tea cruise on the crystal clear waters of the Waikato River on the Huka Falls River Cruise Boat. See natural hot springs, abundant bird life and of course the spectacular Huka Falls where tons of water thunder above you.
Prawn Feast
Lunch on delicious NZ fresh water prawns which are harvested using the warm water from the geothermal power station. Enjoy great views from the restaurant verandah overlooking the Waikato River while sampling a famous prawn burger. Prawn fishing, prawn golf and the riverside walk all add to the whole Huka Prawn Park experience.
Wine Tasting
Visit the famous Scenic Cellars; its one of the best wine shops in New Zealand. Give your tastebuds the time of their life … a tasting of 32 different wines is available with their enomatic wine tasting set up. Platters of antipasto and cheeses can compliment the wine. The Bordeaux Room is also available for that special lunch or dinner and this is part of the magnificent underground cellar that can seat up to 60 for that special function.
Cellar Door Tasting
Huka Falls Winery is just one of 11 vineyards in the region. Six of these vineyards are producing wine and Huka Falls Winery has a tasting venue and a wine cellar restaurant that can cater for up to 36 people. Their veranda overlooks Mt Tauhara and the vineyard and often a marquee is set up for a larger event.
Yum Cookschool
A cookschool that can seat up to 25. Tailor a programme to suit, watch and learn and then CONSUME! What better way to spend a morning or an afternoon with wine to match the courses. The venue could be a private room at their restaurant or at a private home right on the lake edge.
Horseriding at its Best
Treks to suit your needs and desires at Harakeke Farm. The horses are well trained competition horses that will be suitably matched to your riding ability. You’ll cover farm and bush country, all equipment is supplied and picnic hampers are even available on request. Other options available at the farm are 4x4 drive Farm tours that include informative NZ farming techniques.
Mountain Bike Mystery Tours
The Central North Island has some of the best, least travelled mountain bike trails in the country and to combine a picnic in a native forest and then be able to zoom down the slopes of an active volcano is definitely a mountain bike experience! Kayak to some natural hot pools nestled in the side of the river and mountain bike back to Huka Falls!
Fly Fishing Clinic
Flyfishtaupo.com offers clinics for small groups on the fine art of fly fishing. Learn about the anatomy of a river, where to look for fish, best techniques, casting, hooking and yes landing that trout. It is a fun experience but conducted in a relaxed educational format, tailored and planned to suit you.
Shop till you drop
Many of Taupo’s shops are open 7 days a week. Mix business with pleasure and don’t pack too much because the Taupo Shopping is exceptional. You’ll find everything from designer fashion and gorgeous antiques to fishing flies and all adventure gear!
The best of food and wine
Lake Taupo keeps going from strength to strength as a gourmet destination. You’ll find a smorgasbord of eating out choices, from award winning white linen restaurants to cheerful cafes and intriguing ethnic restaurants. Try a few and have a progressive lunch or dinner!
Backpacker bars, groovy lounge bars, friendly pubs, sports bars, trendy boutique bars or a nightclub all exist within walking distance of each other! Dangerous!
