The Great Lake Taupo region has amazing rivers and streams for recreational kayaking. Choose from the Tongariro or Waikato Rivers or the famous trout laden Tokanuu Stream. Lazy rapids, volcanic gorges, sandy beaches and native forests make a fun filled spectacular adventure for the outdoor adventurer. Camp overnight and get the full outdoor experience in the forest listening to the night haunting calls of the Morepork.
Kayak or canoe Lake TaupÅ and around Rangitira Point to the 10 metre high Maori rock carvings only accessible by boat. Learn about the history, how they were carved and their cultural significance. This is a geological and historic tour for the inquisitive visitor. For the explorer wanting more adventure, camp overnight in a sandy bay surrounded by native bush. Tenting is not the only option – you can also stay in remote cabins, cottages or a luxury lodge.
