Group Activities

…. a comprehensive range of both hard and soft adventure!

The Lake Taupō Region has excellent activity ideas to offer, from soft adventure to adrenalin pumping.  For that large group, a number of activities may need to be offered.  The group could be divided and rotated, meeting at a central venue.  Otherwise a choice of activities could be offered to suit the age and interests.

We have team building ideas and exciting combinations of activity ideas plus some really WOW ideas for that high end incentive group.  All these can be organised by local specialists and professional conference organisers or by the conference coordinator at the venue you have chosen.  For initial ideas and advice contact the Lake Taupō Convention Bureau and view the options suggested by them.

Check out these activity ideas or enquire here.

Private trout fishing tournaments

Cruise out on Lake Taupō (three boats can be rafted together if need be) and try our world famous trout fishing from the comfort of a fully licensed charter boat.  Have a gourmet BBQ on board and when you catch a rainbow trout, enjoy it barbecued or fresh, sashimi style!  Crew and boats can be themed, or what about having your conference meeting on board?

Hold your own Grand Prix

Take a group out to Taupō Motorsport Park and learn how drive a single seater Formula One race car replica.  You could end up racing each other around the track.  Beat the boss!  OR...

Take your team for a thrilling V8 racecar ride around the Motorsport Park.  You can be driven by qualified drivers, of course.

Four Wheeled Motorbike Adventure

Go 4x4 motor biking over frontier farmland and native bush trails.  A challenge and enormous fun!  Test your skills further in an archery, knife throwing and laser shooting tournament back at base or get into teams and play paintball.

Golf Galore

Wairakei International Golf course features some of the greatest holes in the country.  Ask for an activity on each hole – whitebait fritters, cocktails, left handed tee off, fish the pond and more.  Book out the clubrooms and make a night of it!

Take a 20 min drive out to Kinloch Golf Resort, play 18 holes on this Jack Nicklaus signature course and lunch afterwards at Jack's restaurant.

For an hour's break from conferencing, what about taking the team to try the Hole in One Golf Challenge on the lakefront – some great prizes to be won.

Fun Car Rally

A car rally around the lake… Stage a different activity at various scenic points around the lake edge with clues to the next destination.

On your Marks… Get Set, Row

Have a relay along the lake front: team race a kayak around a buoy, sail miniature America’s Cup boats to a marker, attempt the hole in one golf challenge, then mountain bike or ride a Segway to Jolly Good Fellows pub for a pint of Guinness and a plate of oysters!

River Boat Excursion

Take the group out on the famous Waireka, one of New Zealand’s original riverboats.  It is licensed to take up to 48 passengers and offers excursions on the Waikato River.  Head out for an evening BBQ and cruise – you could even catch a few trout.

Authentic Maori Culture

An evening of authentic Maori culture at Wairakei Terraces.  A traditional Maori challenge is the beginning of this wonderful experience. Afterwards, take a guided tour of the Maori village with a traditional hangi and concert of song and dance as the finale to the evening OR what about learning as a group how to paddle a waka on either the lake or river?

White Water Rafting/ Kayaking and Mountain Bike Experience

Mountain bike to the river, splash down the river on a raft (you could make your own raft in teams to begin with if so desired). Paddle half way and kayak the rest.

Or raft down the river in teams and have a task to carry out on the way, with a race to the finish line and a sambo and beer to finish at the Spa Hotel!

Learn to Sail on Errol Flynn’s Yacht

Enjoy the chance to learn how to sail on Barbary which was built in 1926 and was once owned by Hollywood star Errol Flynn.  Visit the Maori Rock Carvings, swim from the boat and enjoy breathtaking views across the lake to the snowy mountains.

Bubbles and More Bubbles!

Jet boat as a group up the historical Waikato River through winding gorges and past hot thermal spots to The Hidden Valley of Orakei Korako Thermal Valley and Cave.  Be welcomed with champagne and cocktails before wandering through a valley of unbelievable colour, bubbling hot springs, gushing fumaroles and mud pools.  Continue on to the Ruatapu Cave which extends down some 40m to a hot pool at the bottom… for some, this is the highlight of this thermal wonderland!

Challenge Yourself

Challenge yourself on a dynamic ropes course or a giant swing – a course that involves decision making and problem solving activities.  Or employ the services of our local team building experts who will tailor a programme to fit your company’s objectives and goals or even organise ‘An Amazing Race’ to get your company to Taupō in the first place!  What about our new ‘Actionworld’; an inflatable adventure park excellent for adult fun and team building activity!

Kayak to the Rock Carvings … Cruise Home

A guided kayak trip out to the Maori Rock Carvings, only to be picked up by Chris Jolly boats and cruise home… maybe a taste of freshly caught sashimi trout and glass of wine to finish the day.

Clay Bird Shoot, Target Shooting and an Archery Range

Along with its clay bird shoot, Poronui Ranch has a target shooting and archery range to add to its list of corporate activities.  Lunch afterwards in their amazing underground wine cellar would really top off the day or a group could also have a Maori cultural outdoor food experience which takes you on a journey and is about far more than eating!

Catapult Treasure Hunt

Teams are given a series of decoding cards, a compass and clues to decode as they go along.  The aim is for the first team to find all the catapult parts, assemble it and fire the given items at a target.  Different activities including axe throwing, mountain biking, slate board challenges or even a touch of Fear Factor can be included along the way.  Look out for the big BOOM at the end!

Eat 'Em!

Huka Prawn Park is the world's only geothermally heated prawn farm and they breed giant freshwater prawns. After playing Killer Prawn Golf, fishing for prawns, walking the Riverside walk, testing your balance skills and soaking your feet in a thermally heated foot bath, why not relax in their private restaurant for a cocktail function or dinner?  The venue can take up to 170 in winter and 350 in summer.
