Taupo

Taupo boasts of several golf courses, the famous Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary which has undergone a $ 2 million Ecological Restoration Project to be a beautiful environment for plants, birdlife, and recreation and the award-winning The Kinloch Club golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. 

Other popular golf courses in Taupo include Taupo Golf Club's Centennial and Tauhara Golf Courses, Wairakei Resort's 9-hole Golf Course and the Kinloch Golf Club 10-hole country course. 

Turangi Tongariro

At the southern end of the lake, the Turangi Golf Club is gaining a reputation as an attractive course with 18 holes, par 72 from both tees. The course is reasonably flat and has water features and good tree coverage. Autumn is a spectacular time with the tree foliage showing amazing colours. 

Or have a round of golf on the highest course in New Zealand! The Chateau Tongariro Golf Course is located right in front of the main hotel building and is an easy-walking 9-hole course, with three towering active volcanoes, a World Heritage Park and the grand Chateau Tongariro as your backdrop. 

Mangakino

At the northern end of the lake we have the Mangakino Golf Club, a flat undulating 9-Hole easy walking course with picturesque views of Lake Maraetai and the surrounding forests.

If you are short on time but want to practise your swing, try the Lake Taupo Hole In One Challenge located at Taupo's lakefront. Rated as one of the TOP 100 things to do in New Zealand, it is truly a unique experience and challenge for professional and amateur golfers alike. They average a hole in one every two weeks and if you're skillful enough, you can win NZD10,000 if you get a hole-in-one at the red flag. Good luck!
