Beautiful Great Lake Taupo

By P. Morris
Lake Taupo Top 10 Holiday Resort

If you have read any of the previous posts in this blog, you'll know that whilst I call Taupo home, I am not originally from here, I'm not originallly from New Zealand either but am very pleased and proud to call this corner of the world my home.

One of the many reasons that I like living in Taupo so much is the diversity of what is constantly on offer. I think that sometimes when you are born and brought up in an area you very much take it for granted, I spent the first part of my life living in the Lake District in the north of England, it is an area considered to be the most beautiful in the whole country, but when you are surrounded by such beauty all the time it becomes commonplace. Only since I have gone back on occasion have I truly understood what an amazing place it is that I come from!

Now the residents of Taupo are awash with great ideas and the town contains many people who passionately want to show off what we have to anyone and everyone. In order to do this they think up new and exciting things to do, these may be sporting events (Taupo has one of the biggest sporting events calendars using every natural feature available), motor racing (cars, trucks, motorbikes, powerboats, pretty much anything with an engine), culture, (the bi-annual Erupt festival is coming up soon) or just something completely different.

This Easter Taupo has the Turangi Colours - Art and Food Festival,  and the Acacia Bay Arts and Crafts Fair for the culture vultures, at the Taupo Motorsport Park we have the IRC Racing Series Final (only NZ$10 per adult, under 17's free) for the petrol heads and for those with kids there's the annual Easter Egg hunt at Riverside Park, the Drive-In movies also at Riverside Park and, after it's success over the Summer months, the mobile Ice-Rink is back in town for the duration of the holidays.

So as you see plenty to choose from, none of which will break the bank and there's still all the other activities on offer in Taupo; you can go Horse Riding, Trail Running, Rafting, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Jet-Boating, Sailing, Bungee Jumping, Para-Sailing, Skydiving, River Cruising, Motor-Racing, Gliding, Quad-Biking, Fishing, Walking, Scenic Flying, Rock Climbing, Hunting or just relax

So far (between working) my Easter has been spent at the Egg Hunt on Thursday, mine was the boy who broke ranks and was filling his pockets whilst all the other kids were patiently waiting for the signal, great fun, totally free and now the kids have loads of chocolate for the weekend! We followed that up on Friday evening by going to the Drive-In movie to watch 'Grease'.

I've been to a drive-in before at the Bay Park stadium in Tauranga last year and it was great fun, we watched 'Viva Las Vegas' and upon trying to leave realised that the car battery was flat, doh!! No such traumas this time around although I did spot a chap with a mobile starting kit in his hands as we drove away humming to 'You're the One That I Want'.

Luckily I have a week off for the second week of the school holidays so we're planning to take the kids to the Ice-Rink and up Mt. Ruapehu, then we'll tackle the 'Great Lake Taupo Playground Challenge' again to name a few, more future blog posts me thinks.

Here it is though, this is what I love about this place I now call home, so many different options to suit all budgets and all circumstances. Not content with being a stunning location this town goes the extra mile to entertain its residents and visitors at every opportunity, so don't just dream it, get on a plane or get in a car and come to see what Great Lake Taupo has to offer you.
