MT RUAPEHU – TUROA & WHAKAPAPA

Mt Ruapehu is home to New Zealand’s two largest ski areas, Whakapapa and Turoa. These two ski areas offer incredible terrain to delight skiers and snowboarders of all abilities

New to the snow this year? Turoa's Alpine Meadow and Whakapapa’s Happy Valley are beginner favourites; with wide gentle runs and magic carpet facilities to support your progression.

At Happy Valley the slow-moving chairlift gives your legs a rest between runs. For the kids (and big kids) in the family there’s a tobogganing area nearby too! When you’re done on the slopes relax in our cafés right next to the beginner ski area for good coffee, meals, snacks or even a well-deserved cold beer.

For the best possible start pay a visit to our rental department. The helpful team will fit you with quality skiing or snow-boarding gear (including twin tip and performance skis for the more advanced), with helmets and clothing to complete your ensemble for the day. We replace some of our equipment every year, so rest assured you’ll be using modern equipment, and the flash new boot dryers mean your boots will be warm and dry!

Now you’ve got the gear, let our qualified and patient instructor’s help you get (literally) to your feet. The Turoa and Whakapapa Snow School offers ski and snowboard lessons and packages for all ages and ability levels to improve your skiing/riding, have fun, keep safe and look good!

When you start to get the hang of the new sport experience our intermediate and then advanced trails that skiers and boarders love. Choose from 50 groomed runs, terrain parks and extensive lift accessed backcountry skiing/riding at both ski areas.

Mt Ruapehu is situated within the spectacular Tongariro National Park, a dual world heritage site. You can enjoy these views from the beautiful Knoll Ridge Café situated on the slopes at Whakapapa, accessible via a scenic chairlift ride.

Your Mt Ruapehu Discovery Pass offers a seamless lift pass, which provides you with access to both ski areas. Including a beginners ski/board lesson, beginner area lift passes and a sightseeing chair lift ride.

Both Turoa and Whakapapa offer excellent services and facilities; the only dilemma you’ll have is deciding where to explore next!
